Marks and Spencer shoppers are on the hunt for a new "giant" rendition of the quintessential British biscuits, custard creams and bourbons.

The immensely popular chain remains an enduring institution on Britain’s high streets, boasting a fervent following and an illustrious heritage, originating in 1884.

Marks and Spencer has built a reputation for its premium offerings across multiple departments, featuring stylish clothing, homewares, and furniture. In its much-loved Food Halls, customers can browse a selection of exclusive food items, drinks, and more.

New food launches often whip up excitement among shoppers eager to try out the latest additions.

Like many retailers, consistently engages with its audience via social media, where it shares regular photos and videos to give followers a sneak peek of all the newest items they can expect to find hitting the shelves.

The company boasts a dedicated following online, where M&S strategically utilises separate Instagram pages for each of its departments.

A recent post showcased its Giant Custard Creams and Giant Bourbon biscuits on both its main and food-specific Instagram accounts.

These new goodies offer sweet lovers larger-than-life iterations of the beloved snacks – albeit without the traditional filling. Highlighted on the packaging is their intended usage to make "four ice cream sandwiches".

The product description on reads: "Your favourite biscuit has been reimagined with our Giant Custard Creams. Layer ice cream in the middle to instantly create a classic ice cream sandwich."

In the caption accompanying the image shared on social media, the retailer wrote: "New in the M&S Foodhall BIG biscuit breaking news!

"You LOVED our chocolate-coated custard creams and bourbons last year, and went wild when we added extra cream filling to our regular biccies... Now say hello to our Giant Custard Creams and Bourbon Biscuits!!

"Our experts have worked hard with our bakers to ensure these tremendous treats taste exactly the same as their regular-sized versions, just bigger!"

It suggests using them to whip up ice cream sandwiches or as a sundae topping. People were quick to share their thoughts in the comments section.

One Instagram user said: "Cannot wait to make ice cream sandwiches with these and then drizzle on a bit of the new chocolate sauce too!!"

Another commented: "ON MY WAY OMFG", while a third said: "I love these!!! They are so inspiring a cake design idea".

However, some customers expressed disappointment over the lack of filling. A review of the Giant Bourbon biscuits posted on shopping site Ocado states: "The packaging suggests it is an entire bourbon biscuit, however they are not.

"This could be made much clearer. They also taste somewhat stale. Disappointed. I should have read the description more carefully, but even still, I would not recommend!"

Another reviewer, who made a similar oversight, admitted they "didn't read the details" and added: "My fault. Thought these were giant bourbon biscuits but there is no filling".
